Virtually anyone who’s been involved in organized athletics at some point in life is familiar with the dreaded Sports Dads who have a tendency to take things far too seriously while living vicariously through the offspring they’re convinced is going to be The Next Big Thing.
It’s safe to say that label applies to Jake San Miguel, the father of Madden San Miguel, the 10-year-old football player you may or may not know as “Baby Gronk.”
Baby Gronk’s dad has played an instrumental role in helping his son attract plenty of attention online, although he’s also caught a fair amount of heat from people who feel he’s gone a bit too far with his training methods in addition to being overly controlling in interviews.
While Madden has crossed paths with plenty of notable figures in the sports world, his father has also been called out by a number of high-profile names who’ve put him on blast for sliding into their DMs in the hopes of using them to raise his profile.
Now, we can add another person to that list in the form of the man who inspired Baby Gronk’s nickname.
The Bussin’ With The Boys crew got the chance to chat with Rob Gronkowski when he made an appearance at Tight End University earlier this month, and it’s pretty clear Real Gronk isn’t really a fan of Baby Gronk (or, more accurately, his dad) based on his incredibly candid comments on the subject.
Gronkowski recalled a conversation he had where one of his brothers said the elder San Miguel had been pestering him to link him up with the legendary tight end, saying:
“I was like, ‘Yo, did you see Baby Gronk yet?’ He goes, ‘Did I see him? His dad f****** hit me up 500 times. Don’t do anything with him. The dad is so annoying…’
It’s to the point where it’s awkward. It’s too far.”
Gronkowski also (seemingly) joked he could take legal action to prevent San Miguel from continuing to capitalize off of his name, although based on how he seems to feel about Baby Gronk, it’s not a huge stretch to think he could actually follow through on that threat if he feels things have gotten out of hand.
