Rob Manfred Photographed Practicing Golf Swing During Labor Talks

  • Labor negotiations between MLB and the players’ union are currently underway.
  • Given that a deal has yet to be struck, it’s seeming increasingly unlikely that the 2022 season will begin on time.
  • Despite this, MLB commish Rob Manfred was photographed casually practicing his golf swing during crucial talks on Tuesday.

I’ve been wanting to learn how to play golf for a few years now. My late grandfather — rest in peace, GPT — played until he was like 80-years-old and he was far from being in the best shape. And yet, despite that, he was able to head down to the greens and shoot nine holes for decades upon decades. And that, frankly, seems awesome: I’d love to have a hobby that I begin in my 20s and carry into my elderly years, some 50 years later. Plus, there’s also the obvious added bonus of hitting the links with the fellas and getting absolutely shithoused. Who doesn’t love a good outdoor day drink with the boys?

That said, if I did play golf, you know when I’d simply *never* practice my swing? At work! It just reeks of arrogance and indifference, which is all the more problematic when you’re not only the commissioner of Major League Baseball but are literally in the midst of crucial, billion-dollar labor negotiations with the players’ union.

MLB commish Rob Manfred obviously doesn’t have the same sense of decorum that I do, though, as the 63-year-old was photographed on Tuesday practicing his swing at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida, where labor talks are being held.

Just not the best look for Manfred or Major League Baseball, who are already famously struggling to maintain the interest of American sports fans *without* the prospect of a delayed season.
