Despite all of the controversy that seems to perpetually surround the team, the Washington Commanders quietly have one of the most stable, solid, “good dude” coaches in the NFL. And that’s Ron Rivera.

Clearly an excellent leader of men, Rivera was able to show off just how much he understands and loves his players in the below viral video, which sees him delivering the news of their Pro Bowl selections.

In the video, Rivera lets defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, punter Tress Way, and receiver Terry McLaurin that they’ve been selected to the Pro Bowl. Coach Rivera saved the best for last, though: special teamer Jeremy Reaves. Reaves, who’s kicking around with Washington since 2018, made it out of training camp and onto the 52-man roster for the first time this season.

Reaves is obviously a special guy in the Commanders’ locker room, as evidenced by the reaction of Tress Way when he found out that Jeremy Reaves was a Pro Bowler. In fact, Way insisted that he be in the room when Rivera delivered the news.

The 60-year-old Rivera, who coached the Carolina Panthers to Super Bowl 50, has been with the Commanders since 2020. Prior to his stint with Washington, Rivera was the head coach of the Carolina Panthers and the defensive coordinator of the San Diego Chargers. He was also a linebacker on the historic 1985 Chicago Bears.

This season will be the first year that the NFL holds the “Pro Bowl Games” as opposed to the previous iteration of the Pro Bowl. Instead of holding a glorified scrimmage, the Pro Bowlers will compete in skills competitions and a non-contact flag football game. The Pro Bowl Games will be held on Sunday, February 5.

To close out the 2022 season, the Washington Commanders — who are currently the 7th and final seed in the NFC Playoffs with a 7-6-1 record — will face off against the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, and Dallas Cowboys.
