The beginning of the season for the Atlanta Braves has been an unmitigated disaster. Atlanta entered Sunday with a record of 7-13, a 162-game pace of 56-112 for a team that is considered one of the most talented teams in baseball.

Things behind the scenes seem pretty bad, too. After outfielder Jered Kelenic was caught dogging it on the basepaths and wasn’t punished on Sunday, team superstar Ronald Acuna Jr., who had been punished for similar actions in the past, took to social media to show his frustration.

Acuna is recovering from a knee injury suffered last year, and should be back in the Atlanta lineup in the next month or so. They need the former MVP, as the team is really struggling.

Outfielder Jarred Kelenic is getting many of the at-bats in the outfield that Acuna would be getting if he was healthy, but the former Mets and Mariners top prospect is struggling. He’s hitting well under the Mendoza line nearly four weeks into the season, and fans are frustrated with him.

He looked like he was going to break out in Saturday’s game against the Twins when he blasted a ball to right field at Truist Park that admittedly looked like it was on its way out of there. He thought so too, dogged it to first, and then was thrown out at second, as the call on the field was reversed.

That’s something we see happen far too often, but Kelenic certainly isn’t the first person it’s happened to. In fact, it happened to Acuna back in his rookie year in 2019. Take a look.

Notably, Acuna was benched for that incident. Kelenic was not benched on Saturday, and that did not sit right with Acuna.

.

It seems everyone’s patience is running thin in Atlanta, and after a slew disappointing finishes since their World Series win in 2021, it seems like a regime change in the dugout may be coming.
