Ronald Acuna Jr. scrubbed his Instagram account of Braves content.
The Atlanta Braves’ season came to an end in the NLDS on Wednesday night in Truist Park. They fell 4-1 to the Los Angeles Dodgers, dropping three of four games in the set.
Questions now surround the future of the organization. One of the most talked about players will be Ronald Acuña, Jr.
Acuña has been with the club for nearly a decade. He’s won an MVP, the Rookie of the Year, and a World Series title.
One of the league’s most dynamic offensive weapons, he can hit for average and power while also racking up stolen bases. He’s twice led the National League in swiped bags and twice smacked more than 40 home runs in a season. In 2023, he led the majors in hits, runs, homers, on-base percentage, steals, and total bases.
With that said, his future is somewhat unclear. Injuries have slowed him down at times. He hit just .255 this season and recorded the second-lowest WAR of his career.
His struggles took centerstage in the playoffs.
Ronald Acuña Jr. was booed by Braves fans.
The outfielder hit .125 across seven postseason contests. He struck out in 1/5 of his plate appearances and failed to record an RBI.
During the club’s final loss of the year, he was booed at home.
Some scattered boo birds came out in the bottom of the third inning after a strike out. They were much louder in the seventh after Acuña grounded out with a runner in scoring position to end the frame.

Acuña spoke on the crowd reaction after the fact. He said that fans were “well within their rights to boo,” given his poor performance. Frustrations came out seeing the Braves‘ fate being sealed.
Now, the page turns to 2027. Trade speculation is real. Acuña’s social media activity is fueling the fire.

The superstar’s IG profile picture now reads, “disconnected.” He has gotten rid of all Braves content on his timeline. What does it mean?
Despite the negative response in his final home game of the year, Acuña does not want to leave Atlanta. He told Gabriel Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he wanted to stay in Atlanta for the remainder of his career.
“I want to stay here my whole career. That hasn’t changed. But I can’t control that. It’s hard when you don’t help your team. It’s tough.”
Trade whispers are real. As Burns writes, “Speculation has already turned to Acuña, who has club options for $17 million, respectively, in 2027 and 2028; a bargain for a player with his talent, but also a reality that buoys his trade value despite recent underperformance.”
Is the social media activity linked to his future?
Personally, I don’t think so. I believe he’s just resetting for the offseason after a long year that ended with struggles. It’s a timeline cleanse, not an indication that he’s moving on.
The “Disconnected” profile picture signals a desire to forget about social media and online rumors for a bit. He needs a break.
With that said, the trade speculation isn’t expected to die down. And as Acuña noted, his future is somewhat out of his control.
