Rudy Gobert’s Girlfriend Claps Back At Him Being Ranked ‘Most Overrated’ NBA Player

Poor Rudy Gobert gets no respect. He’s a three-time NBA All-Star. He’s won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award three times. And yet, an anonymous player survey recently ranked him as the most overrated player in the league.

And it wasn’t even really close. Gobert got a league-leading 13.6 percent of the vote (11 out of 81 votes).

“There’s just something about Gobert’s game that his peers don’t like,” Sam Amick and Josh Robbins of The Athletic wrote. “Maybe the skepticism stems from a lack of playoff success, as none of Gobert’s teams have advanced to the conference finals. Or maybe it all traces back to the bubble in 2020 when the Clippers’ Terance Mann buried all those 3s over Gobert in the West semifinals and sparked serious scrutiny about the perceived limitations of the big man’s game.”

There is a long list of reasons for his fellow players to not like Rudy Gobert.

Shaq has called Rudy Gobert an overrated defender (despite evidence to the contrary). Gobert has been fined for making an inappropriate gesture to refs. Draymond Green (who was voted most overrated in 2019) tried to choke him out during a game. He got suspended for fighting with a teammate during a game. He has been condescending to NBA fans. Then there was the whole COVID incident.

So is Rudy Gobert really overrated, or do numerous NBA players simply not like him?

Rudy’s girlfriend Julia Bonilla, who is expecting a child with Gobert, certainly doesn’t think her beau is overrated and made her feelings very clear in an Instagram post.

“My partner is the most dedicated, focused, hard-working person I have ever met,” Bonilla wrote. “He hasn’t stolen anything from anyone and deserves all the respect for his determination and commitment to his career.

“It’s hard for me to stay quiet in front of so much stupidity, disrespect and nonsense,” she continued. “I am so proud of the person he is — fair, a great teammate, with a good heart and a strong mind.”

On the plus side, for Rudy Gobert, he was also named one of three finalist for Defensive Player of the Year. If he wins, it will be his fourth award and would tie him with Dikembe Mutombo and Ben Wallace for the most DPOY awards all-time.
