Given the extremely strict health and safety protocols in place at the Winter Olympics in China, every athlete knew that the Games were going to be a unique and tough experience. For those unfortunate enough to test positive for the virus, well, things go from tough to horrifying, especially in the food department.

Russian biathlon competitor Valeria Vasnetsova returned a positive test with no symptoms and per the rules in place, she was taken to a dedicated hotel for isolation. Those that test positive with symptoms, they’re immediately taken to a hospital.

The designated quarantine hotels have been on the receiving end of tremendous criticism since the start of the Games and based on the photo Vasnetsova showed of the food she’s being served, the criticism is well warranted.

Vasnetsova shared the photo to Instagram and explained just how bad the food and situation have become. She claims she’s been served the same meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner each of the last five days.

“My stomach hurts, I’m very pale and I have huge black circles around my eyes. I want all this to end. I cry every day. I’m very tired,” Vasnetsova explained.

Vasnetsova said she’s basically been surviving on eating a few pieces of pasta as it is “impossible” to eat anything else on the food tray. She explained that she “ate all the fat they serve instead of meat because I was very hungry.”

Vasnetsova also said that her “bones are already sticking out” as she’s been dropping weight all this time.

Food and living conditions are always hot topics at each Olympics, and this year is no exception.
