Sad BYU Fans Were Shook After Upset Loss To LeBron James’ High School Coach In March Madness

Sad BYU Fan Reaction

Duquesne University pulled the first upset of March Madness with a win over BYU in the First Round. The Dukes won the A-10 Tournament to secure an automatic bid as an 11-seed.

They sent the Cougars home sad!

One particular fan who made the trip from Provo, Utah to Omaha, Neb. was especially distraught.

CBS cut to her reaction with just under 15 seconds left. The game was virtually out of reach and she could not believe what she was watching unfold right before her eyes.

As a result, the sad BYU fan became the first viral fan of the year. It is a distinct honor that will likely land her a spot in One Shining Moment!

On the flip side, Duquesne was all smiles!

Head coach Keith Dambrot, who coached LeBron James to two state championships in high school, is set to retire after this season. He has at least one more game left!

The Dukes had not advanced past the First Round since 1969. They led from start-to-finish and danced their way into a Second Round matchup against either Illinois or Morehead State.

James gifted the entire team with a brand-new pair of his signature shoes prior to the game. His gift played a role in the upset victory because, you know— Look Good, Feel Good, Play Good.

BYU fans were very sad as the clock ticked down on their early exit from the Big Dance.

And then there was this guy, better known as @TheBuffBlog on X:

There was a stark contrast between the two fanbases’ emotions, which created the perfect ingredients for an upset that will not soon be forgotten. This is what much is all about!

One group of fans gets to hit the bars to celebrate its win and will stick around for at least two more nights. The other will grab a root beer or two and head back home.
