Despite not currently being a starting quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo remains one of the bigger stories in the NFL right now. Fans have been expecting to see him traded for months, but a shoulder injury has really slowed the process.

Recently, the 49ers have done everything they can to make it clear that Trey Lance is their starter and that they are ready to move on from Garoppolo.

Now the 49ers have released their first depth chart of the new season and it shows just how ready they are to move on from Garoppolo. The depth chart list him as the team’s 4th quarterback heading into the start of the preseason.

It looks like the 49ers aren’t even going to leave the door open for Jimmy Garoppolo to appear in a game this season. Based on that depth chart, it will be Nate Sudfeld who will be trusted as the backup to Trey Lance and Brock Purdy could suit up if needed as the 3rd stringer.

Garoppolo hasn’t been involved in team drills so far at camp and it is clear that both sides are just getting ready for whatever comes next.

Despite the clear intention from both Garoppolo and the 49ers, there has yet to be a clear favorite to emerge in trade talks for Jimmy G. There have been reports about the Giants and Falcons both showing interest in a move and the Seahawks and Browns still stand out as options depending on Deshaun Watson’s suspension and whether the 9ers cut Garoppolo.

With the 49ers making it abundantly clear that Garoppolo’s future isn’t in San Francisco, it’s really just a matter of finally finding a team who will pull the trigger on a deal.
