When he’s on his game, Seattle Mariners slugger Josh Naylor is one of the most dangerous left-handed power bats in all of Major League Baseball.

Naylor, 29, has had an OPS+ over 120 in three separate seasons across three different teams, and made the All-Star Game with the Cleveland Guardians in 2024.

However, while his impressive play can be an asset for any team he plays for, his attitude, on and off the field, can occasionally rub teammates the wrong way, which explains in part why he’s already made four different stops in the Major Leagues.

One such moment involves an incident with former teammate Stone Garrett while the two were teammates in the Miami Marlins’ minor league system.

Josh Naylor Accidentally Stabbed Stone Garrett In Prank Gone Wrong

In 2016, as a member of the Class A Green Grasshoppers, Naylor was suspended for one game after he accidentally stabbed Garrett in the thumb while hiding out in his apartment trying to scare him.

“It was a prank gone bad,” the Marlins said at the time. “These guys are very good friends. Roommates. Josh, trying to pull a prank on his friend and teammate, made a horrible mistake.”

But according to Garrett, they weren’t exactly as friendly as the organization led on.

“Josh Naylor liked to play stupid games,” Garrett recently commented on an Instagram Reel discussing the incident. “Dude would come into our apartment (we were neighbors) with aerosol and lighters multiple times, that wasn’t his first time in our apartment with a butcher’s knife.

“The guy hid in my closet waiting for me to get home, when I went to hang my shirt up, he jumped out with a knife pointed at me. It caught my thumb, sliced it wide open. I went to the ER (he waits for me when I get back, first question is ‘are you gonna press charges?’); next day coach holds team meeting saying front office wants to keep it hush hush lmao!!!

“I get surgery (he cut my nerve; still can’t feel my right thumb), he got suspended for one game lol. Two weeks later, he goes to the futures game and gets traded. He is the most psychotic person I’ve ever met in my life.”

Naylor never did play for the Marlins at the big league level, and Garrett had a short MLB career before playing one season in Korea and retiring last September.

And it sounds as if the two won’t be making amends anytime soon.
