Seattle Mariners Outfielder Victor Robles Makes Catch Of The Year

Seattle Mariners OF Victor Robles has long been lauded for his speed and defense. Those skills, which he polished as a top prospect for the Washington Nationals, have kept him in the major leagues despite never developing into much of a hitter.

Robles has a highlight reel of great catches in his career. That being said, the 27-year-old’s best catch of his career may have been on Sunday, making a grab that could be the catch of the year all season this year.

Robles, who was actually released by the Nationals last June after a horrific start of the plate and with top outfield prospects looming in the minors, was picked up by the Mariners shortly after his release and tore the cover off of the ball for Seattle. He had an OPS+ of 156 in 269 at-bats for them last year, which put him back in the team’s lineup this year.

He was manning right field on Sunday against the Giants when this happened. If you can, turn your sound on. The collision makes an unreal sound.

Here’s another look.

The Mariners ended up losing, 5-4, but that was an awesome catch that was. Robles left the game, but it could’ve been even worse without the protective netting there. He would’ve gone face first into the concrete there, or may have not even attempted the catch at all.

This will be a highlight we see all season.
