SEC Fans Are Enraged After Conference Opts Not To Sell Alcohol At Championship Game

Saturday’s SEC Championship game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs is the premier ticket in all of college football.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey made sure to let everyone know as much during an appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday morning.

But fans who spent their hard-earned dollars to buy tickets to the game were met with some unsettling news as they approached Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

As fans entered the stadium, they were greeted with large signs that read: “alcohol will not be served to general admission at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.”

I mean, I thought this was America?!

No alcohol?! At the SEC Championship Game? This is a travesty.

Fans were not amused by the policy.

“All that money and you can’t even stress drink during the game,” wrote @BrianMFloyd.

Overrated conference and they classist? Couldn’t be my B1G,” said @JothamKitara.

Twitter user @Adam_Bradofrd14 was even less diplomatic. “So people who pay for suites and luxury seating get to drink, but normal fans don’t? Elitism at its finest,” he wrote.

That could make a looooonnggg night for either Crimson Tide or Bulldogs fans. But something tells us both fan bases have their methods for imbibing despite stadium rules against it.
