Shane Gillis and I have one thing in common: we both went to The Masters this year. However, based on what Shane Gillis had to say about his time at The Masters we had very, VERY different experiences despite him likely have access to the VIP Berckmans Place and possibly even the clubhouse too.

Gillis and Steve Gerben broke down their time at The Masters on the latest episode of Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast. It started with Gerben saying that a year and change back he asked Shane that if he could use his celebrity power for anything could he please use it to get them into The Masters. Gillis came through on that request but it didn’t seem to live up to the expectations.

Speaking about his day at Augusta National, Shane Gillis said “I just don’t give a f— about golf. I really wanted to.” After Gerben chimed in with “you can’t see anything” Gillis concurred, saying “yeah, you couldn’t see a f—— thing.”

There were definitely highlights of the day though. Going back to a week or so ago, Shane Gillis revealed the he was going to go to The Masters and bring Steve Gerben but there was a stipulation that Gerben had to drink 6 beers. Six beers is an INCREDIBLY REASONABLE amount of beers to drink throughout an entire day on the golf course.

Considering that most people get to the gates at Augusta around 7am and leave at 6:30pm, 6 beers is nothing. But Gerben wasn’t hearing it and that clip made its way through Augusta National with Shane Gillis saying everyone at The Masters came up to him to ask about the six beers. Here’s that initial clip:

In the full video above, they do point out that the “best you could do is park up at a hole” which is true at every golf tournament ever. People say weekends at The Masters are busier than the practice rounds with around 40K patrons on Monday-Wednesday each day and 50K on Thursday through Friday.

Google says otherwise, and suggests that practice rounds are busier. Regardless, it still felt significantly less busy than any PGA Tour tournament I’ve been to whether that be a regular tour stop, major championship, or FedEx Cup playoff event.

From my experience, the best places to post up where on the bleachers behind the 15 green and 16 tee box or behind 16. You could watch action on 3 holes from there. Of course, they point out that Gerben “can’t see” so having a good spot was never going to help him.

Meanwhile, Shane Gillis is a stout 6’4″. He should be able to see from anywhere at The Masters without problems just by peering over the crowd. I’d say, in general, the crowd at The Masters tends to skew a bit taller than other events but at 6’4″ Shane should never have been craning his neck to see a dang thing at The Masters.

Of course, if golf isn’t your thing then the magic of Augusta might be lost on you. I grew up playing golf. It’s always been a part of my life. To me, Augusta was more fun than the Super Bowl but I can understand how if you’re two guys and one of them doesn’t care about golf and the other is borderline blind then it might not be your cup of tea. In that case, at least drink the six beers.
