Shaq Doubles Down Hard On Caitlin Clark Being The WCBB Goat, Explains Why

Last month, Shaquille O’Neal caught some flack for saying Iowa Hawkeyes guard Caitlin Clark is the best female college basketball player ever.

Shaq made that claim on Inside the NBA after Clark passed Kelsey Plum to become the top scorer in NCAA women’s college basketball history.

When he received some pushback from Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley, who cited Cheryl Miller, Maya Moore and Diana Taurasi, Shaq fired back, “I said what I said!”

This week, just to prove he was dead serious about his Caitlin Clark claim, Shaq doubled down in a conversation he had with For The Win.

“You always have to look at the stats,” O’Neal said. “If a person has 20 [points], they are great. She has 30. Wouldn’t it automatically make her great? I say yeah. The way she plays, shoots and puts her team on the map — nobody has done what she’s done. The reason why Steph Curry is my favorite player is not because he’s bigger and stronger and gotten more done. It’s because nobody has ever done what he’s done.

“Name a guy who’s ever done what he’s done. Name a woman who’s doing what Caitlin Clark is doing. I don’t know one.”

Shaq making the comparison between Caitlin Clark and Steph Curry is nothing new.

In fact, Steph Curry himself is huge fan of Caitlin Clark, telling CBS Mornings earlier this month, “I’ve been watching from afar and understanding just how much of a power she is out there on the court,” Curry said.

“The cool part is the way that she plays and her range and the level of difficulty on her shots is obviously a very close comparison to the way that I play, but I think it almost robs her of, like, the rest of her game because she has an overall floor game, she’s racking up close to triple-doubles every night.

“Her shooting ability is her superpower, but the rest of her game is as polished as that, so this is must-see TV.”

Many seem to forget that not only is Clark a prolific scorer with range equal to that of Curry, she has also led the nation in assists as a sophomore, junior, and now again as a senior. And its not even close. Clark is averaging 8.8 assists per game. Second on the list is McKenna Hofschild of Colorado State at 7.3, and third is Katie Dinnebier of Drake at 6.9.

Clark is also averaging almost five more points per game than second on this season’s scoring list with 31.8 to JuJu Watkins’ 26.9. Third on the list, Lucy Olsen of Villanova, is clear down at 23.6 points per game.

Throw in the fact that Iowa is now 31-4 this season and that, my friends, whether you like her or not, is dominance like we have never seen before.
