Miami quarterback Cam Ward trained alongside Colorado signal caller Shedeur Sanders this week as the duo prepares for the upcoming NFL Draft. Each has a legitimate shot to be selected with the No. 1 pick.

The passers are widely considered the top players at the position in this year’s class. They now look to separate themselves from one another in hopes of landing a major payday.

The difference in contract value can be millions from one pick to the next. Last year, top overall selection Caleb Williams landed a deal just under $39.5 million. Second pick Jayden Daniels came in at $37.7 million followed by Drake Maye at $36.6 million.

Spotrac estimates that this year’s signees will see a similar result. The site projects the No. 1 slot to come with a $42.4 million value, which decreases to $23.4 million over those first 10 picks.

Both Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders should hear their names called early in Day 1. A number of QB-needy teams will pick in the Top 10.

With each having now wrapped up their college careers, the only way to further boost draft stock comes in the form of training. Both will be in Indianapolis for the NFL Combine, but they opted to link up this week to get some reps in beforehand. That session was filled with friendly trash talk as both are highly competitive.

Ward can be heard trolling Sanders for his tendency to throw screen passes. He challenged his ability to throw the ball down the field. Sanders returned the smack talk by referencing the Miami passer’s controversial bowl game exit.

Ward left the postseason contest at halftime in a game the Hurricanes would eventually lose. His commitment to the team was criticized after the fact. Sanders had no problem bringing it back to light ahead of draft day!

“You didn’t do what your team needed in the bowl game. He quit on his team.” -Shedeur Sanders

This is far from the first time the quarterbacks have trained together. Before the college football season, they traded jabs while practicing in Miami.

In that particular instance, it was Sanders being ridiculed by Ward.

Cam Ward questioned Shedeur Sanders’ work ethic.

Ward didn’t believe Sanders was giving his all while they threw together in July of last year. He wasn’t afraid to let him hear about it, either.

“I don’t think you got better today. I got better… We’re throwing comebacks and you’re just lofting it… you’re not throwing it.”

-Cam Ward

The quarterbacks don’t have an issue holding one another accountable. They can compete against one another without letting it damage the friendship. In the end, they want what’s best for each.

With that being said, you can bet there will be bragging rights when it comes to their NFL Draft spots. Whoever wins will land a serious payday, too!
