A bad weekend has turned even worse for the Texas A&M football program. After a tough loss on the road against the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday, it was revealed Tuesday that star defensive lineman Shemar Turner has been arrested for reckless driving.

The arrest occurred on Monday and was due to an incident on August 12.

Here is CBS Sports with more details.

The arrest centered on a motor vehicle incident that occurred on Aug. 12. According to the Houston Chronicle, Turner was driving 85 miles per hour in a busy area near Texas A&M’s campus with speed limits listed at 35 and 45 miles per hour. A responding officer was “unable to safely overtake the vehicle,” which was why the arrest came nearly a month later after Turner’s car was identified.

Turner told investigators that he was late for a meeting and unaware of how fast he was traveling.

As of 7PM ET Monday, there has been no discipline handed down in the case by head coach Jimbo Fisher/

It would absolutely be a huge loss for the Aggies if he is suspended for the arrest. Shemar Turner already has two sacks this year to lead the team. Heading into the SEC season, the team is going to need all the pass rushers it can.

Thankfully’ the defensive line is probably the position they’re the deepest at. They’ve recruited so well up front that conensus five stars like Shemar Stewart, DJ Hicks, Walter Nolen and high four stars like Enai White and Malick Sylla aren’t even listed as starters.

Shemar Turner was a top 50 recruit himself out of DeSoto, Texas in the class of 2021. He had played sparingly before this season, but had established himself as a key player.

The aggies host Louisiana-Monroe this week before they dive right in to their SEC schedule next week against Auburn.
