Sophie Cunningham is the perfect example of how physicality in the WNBA should not be underestimated. She got clowned by Caitlin Clark for losing half of her tooth like Jim Carey in ‘Dumb and Dumber.’
The reigning Rookie of the Year tried to be subtle but her newest teammate thought it was funny enough to share the post to a wider audience.
Cunningham, a seven-year WNBA veteran, played six years with the Phoenix Mercury. She, at some point during that time in Arizona, took a vicious elbow or shoulder to the face and chipped one of her two front teeth. A quick trip to the dentist helped to fix the problem but every so often, a new crown is necessary.
It appears to be about that time. Cunningham posted a video to TikTok captioned: “tell me you play in the W without telling me you play in the W.” The video was going to be a fancy transition. It instead became a reveal of her chipped front tooth.
The chip occurred during the Indiana Fever’s most recent game against the Connecticut Sun.
Cunningham lost half of her tooth on a face-to-face collision with Jacy Sheldon.
It knocked her to the floor.
She had to be helped off of the court in a bit of a daze.

The 28-year-old guard joked that she needed to get in the weight room after the heated moment.

It also appears as though she also needs to get to a dentist! Clark compared her new look to Jim Carey in ‘Dumb and Dumber’ on a private Instagram story. Cunningham shared it to a much larger audience.
