Spencer Rattler Makes NFL Decision Fueling QB Transfer Rumors At South Carolina

Spencer Rattler’s time at South Carolina is through. The quarterback has declared for the NFL Draft now that his 2023 season is done.

While the decision doesn’t necessarily come as a shock, it could have an impact on next year’s Gamecocks team.

Rattler made his plans clear with an announcement on social media.

“Dear Gamecock Nation, these two years have by far been the best times of my football life,” the post read. “Those memories will forever be with me… With that being said, I will be declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft.”

It shut the door on a potential return after he left it ever-so-slightly open before his final game against Clemson.

Over two seasons with the program, Rattler racked up 6,212 yards and 37 touchdowns.

What’s next for SC following Spencer Rattler’s draft decision?

With its starting quarterback of the last two seasons gone, the Gamecocks will look to someone new. Currently on the roster are four-star passers LaNorris Sellers and Luke Doty, though Doty made the transition to wide receiver this past year.

South Carolina’s quarterback room took a hit not only with Rattler’s NFL Draft decision, but also with reserves Colten Gauthier and Tanner Bailey choosing to enter the transfer portal on the same day.

That’s fueled rumors of a potential transfer portal addition in Columbia, and there’s already a target in mind!

Arkansas signal caller KJ Jefferson is rumored to be leaving Fayetteville, though he says he hasn’t yet made a decision. The preseason All-SEC selection has one year of eligibility remaining, and he does have a previous relationship with South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains – a former Razorback staff member.

Some believe that Rattler’s decision could influence Jefferson’s next steps.
