An old throw from Spencer Rattler is going viral once again as the passer gets set for his final collegiate season. The gunslinger is gearing up for Year 2 with the South Carolina Gamecocks after spending his first three years at Oklahoma.

Everyone knows Rattler’s story. A top prospect that got off to a promising start as a freshman only to be unseated as the starter in Norman.

The passer rose to mainstream fame due to his participation in “QB1: Beyond the Lights.” The Netflix show highlighted his senior season, and in Rattler’s case, it painted his character in a bit of a bad light.

Attitude problems and a sense of entitlement were taken away from the series, themes that continued following his benching and eventual transfer from OU.

After a season of ridicule, the signal caller found a fresh slate in the SEC.

That change of scenery didn’t get off to a storybook start as he struggled through his first 10 games. Rattler threw for 200 yards or less in seven of those 10 South Carolina matchups, but something clicked at year’s end.

A six-touchdown performance against Tennessee put the college football world on notice, and an upset over archrival Clemson solidified his return.

In the Gamecocks’ bowl game against Notre Dame, Rattler threw for another 246 yards and two scores. Despite losing the game, 45-38, the quarterback showed some unteachable arm talent and accuracy.

Over that final three-game stretch, Rattler averaged just under 350 yards a game and accounted for more than half of his season touchdown total. He seemed to regain a confidence that had been lost dating back to his freshman year.

He’s hoping to carry the momentum into his senior campaign, and many are already talking about his future at the next level.

Viral Spencer Rattler throw resurfaces stirring up social media.

With media projecting how Rattler might pan out as an NFL prospect, a four-year old trick throw is making the rounds again online. The impressive clip shows him tossing a pigskin from atop mountainous terrain in Arizona and successfully landing it in a trash can.

Most are noting his ridiculous accuracy when referencing the clip.

One notable NFL account wrote, “Draft prospect Spencer Rattler’s accuracy is NOT HUMAN!”

Another posted, “Spencer Rattler has a big-time arm. He’ll be a first-rounder next year.”

Of course, there are also doubters. Many point out that this throw has no relevance to in-game performance.

This fan commented, “Spencer Rattler is still annoying. This also doesn’t change his on-field production.”

Someone else wrote, “Throwing a football to inanimate objects is a sure sign.”

“How does throwing off a mountain help you at all for throwing on a football field?” one follower asked.

While trick throws certainly don’t translate to football games, there’s no denying his talent. He’s attempted to put the bad attitude narrative to rest, so now, his success will be determined by decision making.

Turnovers plagued the passer in 2022, even in wins. Take that Clemson upset, for example. While Rattler balled out to lead his team to a 31-30 upset, he threw a pick-six on his fourth pass of the game and an interception in the endzone before the end of the first half.

If he can clean up some of those issues, he’ll sneak up NFL Draft boards.
