Steelers Fans Are Tired Of Mitch Trubisky After Another Stagnant Offensive Performance

It’s pretty evident that Steelers fans have had enough of starting quarterback Mitch Trubisky. After yet another poor showing to start the 2022 season, Pittsburgh supporters are ready for the Kenny Pickett era to begin.

Now, no one believed that Trubisky would be the long-term answer for the Steelers under center. He was brought in over the offseason as a hold-over until the rookie, Pickett, was ready to roll. Unfortunately, the coaching staff might need to make that call early than expected.

Over his first two games in the Steel City, the passer has completed 42 of 71 attempts for 362 yards. He’s also thrown a pair of touchdowns and a pick.

With Trubisky at the helm, the Steelers’ offense has scored just two touchdowns. In Sunday’s loss to the Patriots, Pittsburgh was held out of the endzone over the first three quarters, falling behind 17-6 before attempting to make a comeback.

The stagnation led to “Kenny Pickett” chants breaking out in Acrisure Stadium.

Pittsburgh was unable to mount a comeback, falling 17-14. After the game, Steelers fans quickly gave their opinions on Trubisky and the current state of quarterback play.

Steelers fans have had enough of Mitch Trubisky

There was quite the reaction from the Steelers faithful following another poor showing from Mitch Trubisky. Take a look at what folks were saying on social media.

Steelers contributor for USA Today Josh Carney said, “I’m out on Trubisky. Completely out.”

Pittsburgh radio personality Colin Dunlap said, “I thought Mitch Trubisky would be good. It’s ok to admit when you’re wrong. To this point I have absolutely been. I’ll say this: If this offense doesn’t get exponentially better in the second half today, a serious discussion should happen about Kenny Pickett starting on Thursday.”

There were a number of Steelers fans that were upset with Trubisky seemingly forgetting about rookie receiver George Pickens. Despite being open on a number of plays, he was targeted just three times, hauling in one pass for 23 yards.

Andrew Fillipponi wrote, “Does Trubisky have a Pickens blind spot? The dude is always OPEN and he never sees him.”

Christopher Carter pinpointed a particular play in which Trubisky forced a throw into coverage rather than passing to a wide-open Pickens, saying, “That’s a TERRIBLE read by Mitch Trubisky. Had George Pickens wide open in the flat on 1st down. Chose instead to try to split a linebacker and safety. Proves costly with his first interception thrown with the Steelers.”

Former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher might’ve summed it up best when he said, “Mitch Trubisky is more worried about not making mistakes than he is about making plays.”

If things don’t get better soon, the quarterback will likely finish the season on the sidelines.
