While the Houston Texans crashed out of last year’s playoffs in embarrassing fashion by blowing a 24-0 lead to the Chiefs, the team seemed to be moving in the right direction. After all, this is a franchise that has won the AFC South four of the last five seasons so it was safe to assume that we’d be hearing a lot about Houston during the offseason.

We’re hearing plenty of chatter about the Texans at the moment, but the discussions haven’t been of the positive variety.

It all began when they elected to trade Deandre Hopkins and a fourth-round pick to Arizona in exchange for running back David Johnson and a pair of 2021 draft picks. To say the trade was shocking would be an understatement.

Since the move, there has been a troubling report about Texans head coach/general manager Bill O’Brien. Michael Irvin claimed he spoke with Hopkins on Tuesday and spoke about a simmering “power struggle” between O’Brien and the wide receiver coming to a head in a brutal meeting in which O’Brien likened Hopkins to Aaron Hernandez. Hopkins later took to Twitter to say that everything was being blown out of proportion.

The Texans have been getting absolutely torched following their decision to trade Hopkins and Stephen A. Smith believes that Deshaun Watson should go into O’Brien’s office and ask for a trade.

While the Hopkins move was shocking, the Texans trading away Watson would be one of the most surprising moves in recent NFL history. It wouldn’t make much sense at all for either Watson or the Texans to go that route, but hey, it didn’t make sense for the team to ship Hopkins to Arizona either.
