With 3:20 left in last Sunday’s game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Los Angeles Rams, Mike Evans scored a 55 yard touchdown on a perfect throw by Tom Brady to cut the Rams’ lead to 7 points.

At the time, most of the world probably didn’t realize the historical significance of that play. Most of us just figured it was another Brady touchdown during an improbable comeback. Many probably didn’t even think it would be the last touchdown pass he’d throw this season. There’s no way we could’ve know it would be the last on he’d throw ever.

Among those who must not have realized the significance of the play was the man who caught the ball.

As you can see in the video, Mike Evans appears to toss that ball into the stands after scoring the touchdown. It’s a moment he’d probably like to have back just a couple of weeks later.

Thanks to this one moment, which didn’t seem particularly meaningful at the time, one fan could be in line to make a whole lot of money.

This isn’t the first time Mike Evans has caught a significant touchdown pass from Tom Brady only to allow it to end up with a fan. Remember what happened with Brady’s 600th touchdown pass?

The fan that ended up with that ball received quite a haul to return it. He received autographed jerseys from Brady and Evans, cleats, a helmet, a $1000 gift card to the team store, tickets to every home game through the end of next season, some crypto, and the keys to the city.

Memorabilia experts valued that ball around $500k. You’d have to imagine the last touchdown ball Brady ever threw would be worth at least that.

For comparison, a signed basketball from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s last game was expected to sell for half a million dollars just last month. It wouldn’t be shocking to see the GOAT’s last touchdown pass command an even bigger price tag.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens with this ball as we don’t even know where it is yet, but I think we all know the real moral of the story here. Mike Evans needs to keep catching significant touchdown passes so fans can continue cashing in.
