Monday Night Football Could Set Viewership Records As Kelce-Swift Families Set To Meet For The First Time

The mania surrounding the relationship between Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end and pop megastar Taylor Swift reached a fever pitch over the weekend. And, it’s likely to set another high-water mark next Monday night when the Kansas City Chiefs take on Travis’s brother, Jason, and the Philadelphia Eagles.

First off, simply from a football perspective, it’s a huge game. The Super Bowl rematch features arguably the league’s best two teams. But, that won’t be the reason this game could set ESPN Monday Night Football viewership records.

Taylor Swift is currently on the South American leg of her record-setting Eras Tour, and Travis Kelce joined her in Argentina over the weekend. While her Friday show got rained out, Kelce was able to watch her perform at a memorable Saturday show which saw Swift change her lyrics to reference the Chiefs tight end, and saw the pop star run off the stage into the waiting arms of her man.

Taylor Swift will perform three shows in Rio de Janeiro this weekend, but with the game being on Monday night in Kansas City, many expected Swift to make the trip to watch Travis play. It’s not unusual for her to return from international shows for a few days during the week and fly out, as that’s what she did this weekend when she returned to New York City following her sting in Buenos Aires.

And, while we have no direct confirmation that is what her plans are, ET is reporting that Taylor and Travis’s parents will be both be in attendance at Monday night’s game. Obviously, Ed and Donna Kelce wouldn’t miss a game where their sons are playing against each other. But, the fact that Scott, who was seen wearing a Chiefs’ lanyard over the weekend despite being a diehard Eagles fan, and Andrea Swift will be in attendance is pretty noteworthy.

This has to be music to ESPN’s ears. This game was already going to do huge ratings as one of the biggest games of the season. But, with Swift almost certainly in attendance, along with her parents, Travis’s parents, and fan favorite Kylie Kelce, the wife of Jason Kelce, there will be a lot of casual interest outside of the sports realm.

The Monday Night Football game in week one between the Jets and the Bills that saw Aaron Rodgers’ debut cut short by a devastating injury set an all-time ESPN MNF record with over 22.6 million average viewers. That record seems to be in serious jeopardy when the 8-1 Eagles and 7-2 Chiefs square off.

And, it should be a really well-played game, as both teams are coming off bye weeks. If you are fed up with the Travis-Taylor content during football games, I would suggest you don’t watch.
