Tennessee Fans Aren’t Sure How To Feel As Peyton Manning Is Announced As College GameDay Guest Picker

There are few more representatives of the University of Tennessee than Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning.

Manning’s storied 18-year NFL career featured an astonishing 14 Pro Bowl selections, five NFL MVP awards and two Vince

Lombardi Trophies. But he was no slouch in college, either. Manning won just about everything you could in his senior year of college, taking home a slew of individual accolades and leading the Vols to an 11-2 record and a No. 7 finish in the AP Top 25.

So it only made sense that ESPN had one person in mind its guest picker on Saturday’s edition of College GameDay in Knoxville.

Manning will join Rece Davis, Pat McAfee, Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit and hopefully Lee Corso behind the desk. The sixth-ranked Vols are set to host their biggest game in years against third-ranked Alabama.

But not all Vols fans are happy about having Manning back. That’s because of the Manning Curse.

Not familiar? We’ll fill you in.

ESPN’s ManningCast for Monday Night Football was a huge hit in 2022. But the broadcast came with grave consequences for any active player who went on it. In 2022, every single active player that went on the ManningCast lost the following week.

Vols fans are now concerned that the Curse expands beyond just the ManningCast, which wouldn’t bode well for Tennessee on Saturday.

But some fans either don’t believe that the curse is real, or they believe the Vols are the team to break it.

Godspeed, Vols fans.
