A lot was made of the heightened security measures for President Donald Trump at the college football game in Tennessee on Saturday afternoon. It was much ado about nothing.
The Volunteers did not have any issues getting into the stadium before kickoff.
Now, to be fair, it might’ve looked different if the school did not encourage fans to arrive early to the college football game because of expected issues with entry. However, the additional screening outside of Neyland Stadium was overhyped.
Tennessee warned fans its fans about the arrival of President Trump.
Wherever the President of the United States goes, the Secret Service follows. President Donald Trump is not the exception.
As a result, the University of Tennessee and Tennessee state police warned fans to get to Neyland Stadium extra early on Saturday due to “enhanced security.” It was one of the biggest talking points of the week. Volunteers fans were very worried that they would not be in their seats in time for kickoff. They were concerned about long waits at the seven main point of entry.
In an effort to solve the potential logistical issues, Tennessee allowed its fans inside the stadium three hours ahead of kickoff. Security opened at 8:00 a.m. for a noon start. Booze was also half price from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. to encourage early arrivals.
It worked! A large amount of Volunteers fans arrived in time to watch College Gameday on the jumbotron.

Most of the fanbase was in their seats with more than an hour until kickoff.

Everybody else arrived shortly thereafter.
They were treated to an epic flyover from Air Force One.

The plan worked. Tennessee packed Neyland Stadium without any problems.
Nobody had an issue with the enhanced security.
All things considered, the pregame concerns about security were far worse than reality. Don’t get me wrong, the lines to get into Neyland Stadium were pretty long.
But they did not take long!
Nobody seemed to have an issue.
I did not see anyone who tried to get into the stadium in time for kickoff and was unable to make it on time.
In fact, WTVC shared a video of the “heightened security measures” that were practically nonexistent. It did not change anything.
Things were much tighter inside of the stadium. Secret Service K9s swept the stadium (and let out some of their energy) prior to Vol Nation’s arrival.

President Trump (and senator Marshall Blackburn) also sat behind bulletproof glass. There is no doubt that Tennessee went the extra mile for security alongside the White House. It did not impact the fans. They were in their seats and ready to go.
