The Texas Longhorns football program got a chance to see a pair of former top recruits under center this season. They entered the season with Quinn Ewers at the helm in his first season since transferring from Ohio State.

When he was injured against Alabama, the Longhorns turned to Hudson Card.

This season was Card’s 3rd with the team since they landed him as a top 100 recruit in the Class of 2020. Now it appears it will also be his last with the Longhorns.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Card is entering the transfer portal.

Card is looking to head to a Power 5 school where he can win and he gave schools that fit that description good reason to have interest in him as a transfer when he stepped in for Ewers.

He gave Texas a chance to win against a strong Alabama team in Week 2. Then he put together a 2-1 record in his 3 starts for the team while throwing for 741 yards and 6 touchdowns.

With Ewers still around to lead the team next season and Arch Manning getting ready to join the Texas roster next season, it seemed unlikely Card would ever get another chance to start for the Longhorns without an injury.

Luckily he made the most of his opportunity to audition for other teams this season and now he’ll head into the transfer portal with hope that he can find a good fit for himself.

His performances this season should get him look from quite a few programs in the Power 5 that will be looking for their answer at Qb for potentially the next 2 seasons.
