‘The Match III’ is reportedly in the works, but the biggest name involved in the previous two matches won’t be a part of it.

According to Sportico, Turner Sports is working on the third iteration called ‘The Match 3: Champions for Change’ and while Phil Mickelson will be returning, Tiger Woods won’t be a part of the Thanksgiving weekend event.

Peyton Manning will make his return after teaming up with Mickelson in ‘The Match II‘ back in May. With the NFL season underway, Tom Brady won’t be able to play, so two new names have been tapped for the event. Steph Curry, who is a scratch golfer that’s played in a few Korn Ferry Tour events, will be playing as well as Charles Barkley, who has one of the worst swings in the history of the game, will be entertaining nonetheless.

The level of play will take a major drop seeing as how Barkley and Curry are being substituted in for Woods, but depending on the playing format it could still be a strong product. Barkley will bring the heat on the mic as per usual while viewers will still get to see Mickelson as well as get a glance at how good Curry is on the links.

Historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are expected to be the beneficiaries of ‘The Match III.’ The match in May generated some $20 million for COVID-19 relief, as sponsors and viewers effectively matched the $10 million donated by WarnerMedia.
