Echoing similar statements made by Rory McIlroy this month, Tiger Woods believes that a PGA Tour-LIV Golf deal will come soon and golf reunification is closer than ever. This came after PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and Adam Scott met with President Donald Trump last Tuesday, a meeting Tiger Woods was scheduled to attend but unable to.
Tiger Woods sat out of The Genesis Invitational, a tournament he hosts as Genesis has been his sponsor for years and also a vehicle that likely saved his life when he flew off the road in February, 2021 and nearly lost his legs. Woods withdrew from The Genesis as he is still mourning the loss of his mother, Kultida, who passed away at the age of 80 on February 4th.
The grieving process is also the reason Tiger Woods was absent from the meeting last Tuesday with President Donald Trump but he was fully informed of the discussion and spoke about the reunification of golf. Tiger believes a PGA Tour-LIV Golf deal and golf reunification is imminent and that’s a major reason for golf fans to be hopeful because Tiger isn’t one to bloviate.
Speaking about a PGA Tour-LIV Golf deal and golf reunification, Tiger Woods started by saying that things are in “a positive place” right now after the meeting with President Trump.
Tiger went on to tell ESPN and other reporters “I think things are going to heal quickly. We’re going to get this game going in the right direction. It’s been heading in the wrong direction for a number of years and the fans want all of us to play together — all the top players playing together — and we’re going to make that happen.”
Tiger Woods’ reunification comments come just a few days after Rory McIlroy echoed similar thoughts. Interestingly, Rory was also absent from the meeting with President Trump which was attended by golfer Adam Scott who sits on the PGA Tour’s board and commissioner Jay Monahan. But Rory also let it slip that President Trump apparently does not like LIV Golf despite hosting multiple invitationals at his Trump golf courses.
Tiger also spoke about his return to playing while sitting in with the booth crew:
The golf world feels for Tiger Woods as he heals from the loss of his mother. I wish I could send Tiger Woods a message, having gone through it myself, and share with him Andrew Garfield’s perspective on losing a parent. It’s a nice thought I found solace in.
