Bill Belichick and Tom Brady won 6 Super Bowls together in New England. Tom holds the edge with SB rings when he picked up another in Tampa Bay after leaving Foxboro, and ever since people have nitpicked at Bill Belichick’s legacy as the Patriots’ dynasty has ended and Belichick eventually parted ways with the Pats.

Here to defend Bill Belichick as being just as integral to the Patriots’ success as Tom Brady is Tommy’s dad, Tom Brady Sr. He spoke with the Boston Globe and ‘went to bat’ for Belichick.

Tom Brady’s dad told Christopher L. Gasper “I don’t think it’s fair what I’ve seen everybody saying that it’s all Tom. Bill is the best coach in football, bar none. The last three or four years of his tenure in New England have been in the dumper. It’s too bad.

It wasn’t all ‘best coach in football’ praise though. Tom Brady’s dad did discuss the role that Bill Belichick‘s ego played in his career. Saying “Bill is tough. He runs a military system. It’s a different generation. Bill is a great, great, great coach. But his interpersonal skills are horrible. That’s the bottom line.

Tom Brady’s dad added “Ego sometimes gets in the way of things. I think it did with Bill. Now, he’s in a situation where he’s gotten crucified for the last few years by everybody and a lot of luster has come off his rose.”

Tom Brady’s Dad Reveals A Message From Robert Kraft

When Tom Brady returned to Foxboro for his tribute this season, Tom Brady Sr. says Patriots owner Robert Kraft basically admitted to the Brady’s that he was wrong about letting Tommy go and siding with Bill Belichick.

Brady’s dad told the Globe about it, saying “He just said, ‘I made a mistake.’ He told us that back in September. We don’t all make the right decisions, but he’s made a hell of a lot of good ones over the years. But I know that it galls him that Tommy went elsewhere and won. Not that he won, but that he won after Bill said he was done.

Decisions are easy in hindsight. Surely, if the Pats had to choose between Tom Brady for a few more years or Bill Belichick, knowing what everyone knows now, they would have sided with Tom. As a born-and-raised Buccaneers fan, I’m certainly pleased with the way things shook out.
