Over the weekend, Adam Schefter appeared to break the news of Tom Brady’s decision to retire from the NFL after 22 seasons before the report was immediately disputed by a number of people close to the legendary quarterback.

There was plenty of speculation that Brady was waiting to cash the sizeable bonus the Buccaneers were slated to pay him on February 4th before making the news official, but on Monday, he officially put the speculation to rest by announcing his decision to hang up his cleats in an Instagram post that was suspiciously absent of any references to his time as a member of the New England Patriots.

After the news broke, a number of outlets pounced on the chance to use the announcement to do a little bit of trolling, as NBC New York and Washington D.C.’s WTOP both sent out tweets that poked fun at some losses Brady suffered over the course of his career while informing their followers about the development.

It didn’t take long for plenty of other people to get in on the action, and just like that, the “Tom Brady, Who Lost To” meme was born.

Thanks for the memories, Tom.
