Tony Romo and Jim Nantz are one of the best broadcast duos in all of sports. However, Romo can sometimes take things a little bit too far like he did on Sunday.

During the overtime period of the AFC Championship game, the Bengals had a chance to win the game with a field goal after picking off Patrick Mahomes.

Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati offense took over and proceeded to drive into field goal territory. After getting into range for rookie kicker Evan McPherson, the Bengals continued to hand the ball off. Tony Romo was baffled.

In Romo’s opinion, Cincy should have run McPherson on to kick the game winner and call it a day. Any time the ball is snapped, there is risk of fumble or fluke turnover and Romo knows that first-hand.

Back in 2006, the former Cowboys quarterback botched a snap to cost his team a win. Dallas was down by one point in the NFC Wild Card game and set up a 19-yard game-winning field goal attempt. If the ball went through the uprights, Romo and the Cowboys would have won.

That didn’t happen. Romo fumbled the snap and the kick did not get off. Romo had to try and run for a touchdown and got stopped short of the goal line to lose.

It is one of the most famous blunders in NFL history. You can watch it HERE.

Going off of first-hand experience, Romo advised Cincinnati to avoid any more opportunity to blow the game in heart-breaking fashion. To do so, he made a very funny self-deprecating joke.

“I’ve seen guys in the playoffs drop a snap before in a big situation,” he said with a chuckle.

It was funny, had he let it lie. But he didn’t.

Nantz did not hear Romo’s joke, so he said it again and explained why it was funny. That, of course, makes a joke unfunny.

Either way, Romo got so close to pulling off the perfect joke about himself. Take a listen:

Nantz got a good laugh the second time, but it would have been a lot funnier if Romo had just let it breathe.
