Tony Stewart‘s Superstar Racing Experience, SRX for short, will not run in 2024 after three prior seasons.

The series cited “market forces” when it announced its plans to shut down for the 2024 season on Wednesday.

“It is with deep disappointment that we announce the postponement of SRX’s fourth season,” a statement read. “We entered the next phase of our racing series with great anticipation and excitement for what was ahead. Our expectations, however, have been tempered by market factors that have proven too much to overcome.

“Time has run out to put forth the kind of events our fans, partners, drivers and tracks deserve. We’re thankful to each for their commitment, their contributions and their support as we brought a new idea to reality.

“The racing industry continues to evolve and we are actively exploring strategic options for the series’ long-term potential. We made this announcement now to allow our partners the time and flexibility to best serve their interests.”

Tony Stewart’s SRX Shutdown Coincides With News Of Potential IROC Revival

The announcement comes just days after the news that Ray Evernham, who was essential in getting SRX off the ground, had left in hopes of reviving the former IROC series. IROC, like SRX, features drivers from various racing series competing against one another in identical cars.

Stewart and SRX did not directly cite IROC as the reason for the series shutdown. But it’s hard to imagine that the competitor was not part of the “market forces” that the statement referenced.

Additionally, Stewart recently announced his plans to compete full-time in the NHRA Top Fuel division in 2024. He is set to replace his wife, Leah Pruett, as the couple looks to start a family.

The combination of those factors makes the announcement less of a surprise. But it’s still a disappointment for a series that had packed grandstands in its first three seasons.
