Toronto Blue Jays Fans Are Ripping Their Poor Social Media Manager To Shreds After Brutal Playoff Collapse

Toronto Blue Jays fans began the 2022 MLB season with high hopes. The Jays finished the 2021 season with a 91-71 record and just narrowly missed out on the postseason.

Those high hopes quickly faded after an up-and-down start to the season led to the team firing manager Charlie Montoyo. But the move paid off. Toronto steadied the ship and finished the season with a 92-70 record, which landed them the first Wild Card spot in the American League.

That also landed them a three-game home series against the upstart Seattle Mariners. The Mariners were back in the playoffs for the first time since 2001, ending the league’s longest playoff drought.

Seattle announced itself with a 4-0 win in Game 1 of the series thanks to a dazzling outing from starter Luis Castillo. The Mariners acquired Castillo in a blockbuster trade with the Cincinnati Reds prior to the trade deadline. Castillo repaid their faith, pitching 7 1/3 innings of shutout ball with five strikeouts and no walks.

But the Jays didn’t just roll over.

Instead, Toronto jumped out an 8-1 lead through five innings and looked set to send the series to a third game. But that’s where it all fell apart. Carlos Santana blasted a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning as part of a four-running inning to cut the lead to 8-5. Toronto got one back in the seventh to make it 9-5. But Seattle again punched back. After a Cal Raleigh RBI single made it 9-6, J.P. Crawford hammered a bases-clearing double to knot it a 9-9.

Adam Frazier then doubled in Raleigh in the top of the 9th and the Mariners had come all the way back to take a 10-9 lead.

George Kirby worked around a one-out walk to notch the save and bring the Jays’ season to a catastrophic end.

Blue Jays Fans Go Off On Twitter After Horrific Collapse

Needless to say, Toronto fans weren’t particularly happy with how it all played out. They took to Twitter to share their displeasure with the Blue Jays’ poor social media manager.

Mariners fans, however, had a ball with the tweet.
