There is no week more popular in the world of golf than the week of The Masters at Augusta National GC which made this the perfect week for Apple TV+ to drop the trailer for Owen Wilson‘s Stick. In the show he plays an over-the-hill golfer who has hit a rough patch.
As a lifelong fan of the sport of golf, I could not name a single TV series based on golf if my life was on the line. I could name you a handful of memorable golf movies over the years like Caddyshack, Happy Gilmore, and the The Legend of Bagger Vance with Will Smith and Matt Damon but as far as I know, there never has been a big production TV series based on the sport of golf until now.
Owen Wilson is the lead star in Stick on Apple TV+ which will start streaming on June 4th, a week before the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. The first trailer doesn’t give us a ton but it has certainly piqued my interest:

In Stick, Owen Wilson plays Pryce Cahill who is described as an “over-the-hill ex-golfer” who was fired from his job, his wife has left him, and he is now turning to coaching/mentorship of a promising youth golfer. This sounds like equal parts Tin Cup and The Legend of Bagger Vance. Which, while they’re not traditionally great movies by any stretch of the imagination most diehard golfers will tell you they love those films.
The description from Apple TV+ reads “After the collapse of his marriage and getting fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store, Pryce hedges his bets, and future, entirely on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom named Santi (Peter Dager). “Stick” is a heartfelt, feel-good comedy about a found family and their relationships set within the world of golf as it has never been shown before.”
I’m all in on 30-minute easy watching comedies. I appreciate high-brow cinema as much as the next guy but sometimes I just want to shut my brain off and be entertained and this show has that written ALL over it.
Comedian and ‘Podfather’ Marc Maron will appear in all 10 episodes of Stick. Other stars include Lilli Kay who I recognize from Your Honor, Judy Greer who I love in Archer, and a bunch of other actors who I’m sure Apple TV+ has masterfully cast but not listed in the IMDB credits are any pro golfers and at this point I have to assume there will be a lot of unexpected cameos that aren’t listed yet.
At the very least, we know that he’ll be caddying either for or alongside Collin Morikawa at some point and that Max Homa + Wyndham Clark will make an appearance:
