Over the last few years, Travis Kelce has removed any doubt about his status as the best tight end in the league.

He has repeatedly put up huge numbers and helped lead the Kansas City Chiefs to another title this past season as the team’s clear top target.

However, there was a time that Kelce’s career nearly went in a very different direction.

He was a talented quarterback in high school and was recruited by Cincinnati to play the position, but never ended up playing the position for them full time.

He redshirted his first year and then split time during his second season between tight end and playing wildcat quarterback.

The next season, he was suspended for the full year after he tested positive for marijuana.

During a recent appearance on “Bussin With the Boys”, Kelce revealed that suspension is what ended his quarterback aspirations.

“What it did was it really kicked me into the tight end room. I was still playing QB then,” Kelce said. “It was like, ‘Alright, you can come walk on the team, but we don’t need a quarterback. You can just be an athlete on scout team for a year, we’ll figure it out.’”

It may not have been what Kelce originally wanted, but things ended up working out pretty well for him.

Travis Kelce is currently 4th all-time in receiving yards for a tight end and doesn’t look like he’ll be slowing down any time soon as he tries to continue climbing the list.

That’s a pretty impressive career for a player that was a 2-star recruit at quarterback.
