It’s been a breakout season for Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Questions remained heading into his third season in Miami about whether he could be a franchise quarterback. But, he’s been fantastic. He survived an incredibly scary head injury early in the season and has been among the best quarterbacks in the league. Through 11 games he’s played in, he’s thrown for 3004 and 22 touchdowns against 5 interceptions. 2nd-year wide receiver and former Alabama teammate Jalen Waddle has played a huge part. But, the biggest piece to that passing game has been Tyreek Hill. He’s been awesome all season and has helped made the Dolphin offense incredible.
But, the signal-caller was not at his best on Sunday Night Football in a 23-17 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. In fact, he was historically bad.
The advanced stats for Tua Tagovailoa were all-time bad
Tua was only 10-28 on Sunday night. That’s bad in and of itself. But, this advanced stat will make things look even worse.
Per @NextGenStats, Tua finished 3-13 (23%) with at least 2.5 seconds to throw, the worst completion % by any player in a game on those throws this season

3-13 isn’t a great stat line on plays where the quarterback is under pressure. But 3-13 on plays where the quarterback has plenty of time to throw is just putrid.
The memes were out, too.

Tua will get his chance to bounce back next week in what is the biggest game of his NFL career so far. They will travel to Buffalo with huge AFC East implications on the line.
