The Coach K retirement tour made its last stop over the weekend when Duke lost their final home game of the year against rival North Carolina. It was a disappointing way to end Coach K’s last regular season for Duke and their fans, but there were definitely some who enjoyed the tough ending.

Among those who derived some joy from that UNC win was none other than former Tar Heels star Tyler Hansbrough. Hansbrough appeared on the ACC Network this week and had a hilarious comparison for the Coach K farewell tour.

“The only thing I can really compare it to, and I know I’ll take some heat for this, is the Larry David show. This season, they have a guy that goes to his funeral while he’s still alive so people can tell him how good he is. I thought it was one of those situations. I thought it was funny. Hey, K deserves a lot of respect, but Tar Heel fans, we love that.”

The episode Hansbrough is comparing to Coach K’s farewell tour is the premier episode of the latest season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. In it, Albert Brooks (the voice of Marlin in Finding Nemo) holds a funeral for himself while he is still alive so he can hear the nice things people have to say about him before he dies. Of course, Larry ruins it.

It’s a pretty hilarious comparison for the tour around the ACC that Coach K just went on where opposing teams showered him with praise and some gifts.

Duke fans really didn’t like Tyler Hansbrough during his time as a Tar Heel and comments like this about Coach K aren’t going to endear him to the fanbase.
