A video of Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett giving himself up after making catches has been going viral in recent days and NFL fans aren’t sure what to think about it.

On one hand, Lockett is choosing self-preservation over the betterment of the team. On the other, though, football is a famously violent sport and Lockett is also prolonging his career by taking fewer hits, and therefore makes himself an asset for the Seahawks for a longer period of time.

Drafted out of Kansas State in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft, the 30-year-old Lockett has spent his entire career with the Seattle Seahawks. During his eight-year career, Lockett has hauled in 503 catches for 6,707 yards and 50 touchdowns.

Lockett has played some of the best ball of his career in recent years, as his three highest reception and yards totals have come in the last three seasons. So far this season, Lockett — playing without Russell Wilson for the first time in his career — has caught 54 balls for 640 yards and five touchdowns.

Through 10 games, the 6-4 Seahawks lead the NFC West by one game over the 5-4 San Francisco 49ers. Down the stretch, the Seahawks have matchups against the Raiders, Rams (2x), Panthers, 49ers, Chiefs, and Jets remaining.
