Plenty of college programs are finding new head coaches to lead their football teams for the 2023 season and beyond. Now, the University of Alabama at Birmingham joins the party. Apparently, they’re looking to make a splash hire, as UAB is zeroing in on former Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl-winning quarterback Trent Dilfer.

According to ESPN, “Dilfer is expected to become the next head football coach at UAB.” This isn’t quite official yet, but it sounds like the hire will be finalized “in the upcoming days.”

Trent Dilfer has been head coaching at the high school level for Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. Although he was never viewed as an elite quarterback during his time with the Ravens, his quarterback camp was recognized as one of the best in the country. His coaching prowess is finally gaining momentum as he’ll be the new UAB coach soon enough.

Sure, the Blazers are a small school, but this is a big jump for Trent Dilfer. UAB has been in the middle of the pack of their own conference for several years now. Maybe the former NFL quarterback can turn things around for this program and make them one of the better small schools in the nation.

That’s certainly what UAB hopes to get out of their new head coach. Considering Trent Dilfer is currently coaching his high school squad for the state title, then there should be some hope for the Blazers after all. Look for the official announcement of Dilfer’s hire to come through soon.
