The UFC made some big announcements about their upcoming schedule today.

They announced a title fight double-header for UFC 292 with Weili Zhang taking on Amanda Lemos and Aljamain Sterling defending his belt against Sean O’Malley.

They also revealed that Alex Pereira will make his move up light heavyweight and take on fellow former UFC Champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291.

Still, it is likely that none of those fights got fans as excited as another fight that was announced for UFC 291.

The UFC announced a rematch between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje for the BMF belt at UFC 291 on July 29th.

If there were ever two fighters in UFC history that deserved the chance to throw down for the BMF belt, they are Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje.

Every time these two step into the Octagon, fireworks are guaranteed. They have earned a combined 24 Fight Night bonuses during their time in the UFC and both earned Fight of the Night honors in their most recent fights.

Their first fight was an absolute classic. In front of a very pro-Gaethje crowd in Glendale, Arizona, Poirier and Gaethje threw down in a slugfest until Poirier was able to put Gaethje away early in the 4th round by standing TKO.

That fight was crowned the Fight of the Year back in 2018 and it wouldn’t be surprising at all if they won that award again this time around.

This matchup should also mean that fans won’t have to worry about a repeat of what happened the last time the BMF was up for grabs.

Jorge Masvidal won the BMF belt in a fight against Nate Diaz back in November of 2019. He has fought four times since, losing all of them, and the belt hasn’t been on the line in any of those fights.

Whoever comes out on top in this matchup will have proven themself to be the true BMF in the UFC and will be certain to continue defending that belt for as long as they can.
