Michigan State University is searching for a new head football coach and Urban Meyer is currently without a job. The 59-year-old three-time national champion recently issued a very firm response to rumors about a potential return to the sideline.

He made it abundantly clear that he does not have interest in leaving Fox to come out of retirement. However, Meyer has lied before and could do it again!

(Some) Spartans fans certainly hope that is what is happening here. They want Meyer.

As is tradition in college football, coaching search season means flight tracker season. Meanwhile, the message boards heat up as fans try to decipher who their school might hire next.

That is exactly what’s going on in East Lansing. The tinfoil hats are firmly atop the heads of Michigan State fans and one particular private jet sighting sparked some serious chatter.

It is not truth. It is not inside knowledge of the situation. It’s not reporting.

There is no other classification other than “gossip” or “rumors.” That doesn’t make it any less entertaining.

Is Michigan State hiring Urban Meyer?!

Meyer currently resides in Sarasota, Florida. Michigan State’s private jet was spotted in Sarasota on Thursday, which sent SpartanMag into a frenzy.

It started with ‘greenjo2,’ who claimed to have boots on the ground.

Okay, I’m inside Atlantic Aviation. I just completed a tour provided by the GM of the facility. He thinks I’m looking at having a potential meeting here.

Looks like there are 3 jets on the tarmac ready to go. There are some private meeting rooms that were being used. Not sure who was in there.

He or she, presumably he, provided another update about two minutes later.

9:40 black suburban just pulled around back

‘Spartyten’ suggested that greenjo2 try to get eyes on the people getting inside of the suburban. Greenjo2 said that he was “fairly confident” that he “just saw the AD” and asked for the tail number.

Greenjo2 said that he saw a gray-haired man in a suit get on the jet with someone who looked like athletic director Alan Haller and claimed that he spoke with a security guard at the Sarasota airport’s executive terminal. The security guard supposedly told him that MSU officials were on the flight.

Michigan State flies a Leerjet, with the tail number: N280LJ. Flight logs show that the jet flew from East Lansing, to Sarasota, to Cincinnati.

Meyer will be in Columbus, Ohio this weekend for Big Noon Kickoff. Perhaps he made a stop in Cincy?!

The conspiracy theories continued. Kerry Coombs, Meyer’s former defensive coordinator is in the Queen City. As is Meyer’s former strength and conditioning coach Niko Palazeti, who is also a Michigan State alumnus.

Greenjo2 saw the plane off and retired from his post.

Meanwhile, back in East Lansing, Spartyten gathered at the airport and waited for the flight to lane. He/she saw neither Meyer nor Haller get off of the plane.

Did they get off in Cincinnati?! Did they sneak through a private entrance?!

The full message board exchange is truly one of the all-time greats.

Meyer becoming the next head football coach at Michigan State seems very, very unlikely. But it would be even funnier if the Spartans message boards got it right!
