It’s been close to two years since Urban Meyer was fired as the head coach of the Jaguars after his tumultuous time with the franchise came to an end before he completed his inaugural season, and he quickly settled into a new career after pivoting to broadcasting—a lane he seems very content with remaining in despite rumors concerning a potential comeback.

At this point, it’s very hard to imagine any NFL team would be scrambling to knock on Meyer’s door to fill a vacancy based on the months-long dumpster fire we were treated to during his tenure in Jacksonville.

He was certainly no stranger to controversy while he was at the helm at Florida and Ohio State, but it would be much less shocking to see a college program at least kick the tires on a man who won three national championships while racking up an all-time record of 187-32 in the NCAA.

It didn’t take long for some people to claim Meyer was eyeing the job at Michigan State after former head coach Mel Tucker was fired over the scandal that sparked a fairly messy divorce. The man who seems pretty content with his current gig at Fox Sports denied he was interested, although there are reports he quietly made the trek to East Lansing in the wake of Tucker’s dismissal.

There’s no telling what the future holds, but according to the Knoxville News Sentinel, Meyer poured some cold water on the fire that’s created the smoke concerning his interest in the job at Michigan State during an appearance at the Knoxville Quarterback Club on Monday.

Meyer stated he has “no desire” to return to coaching while discussing the toll it took on him over the years, saying:

“I am good. I never really took a day off. People, when I say that, they scratch their head.

I am like I never took a day off. I had some health stuff go on. I became addicted to sleeping pills. I was just a maniac worker. So no.”

That seems about as definitive as it gets, but crazier things have happened.
