The Florida Gators and first-year head coach Billy Napier picked up a huge victory to start the 2022 season on Saturday. Florida welcomed seventh-ranked Utah to The Swamp for a big-time matchup between Pac-12 and SEC foes.

The Utes went 10-4 in 2021 and won the Pac-12 before falling to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl.

Junior quarterback Cam Rising was a big part of the huge expectations surrounding Kyle Whittingham’s squad in 2022. Rising threw for 2,493 yards, 20 touchdowns and just five interceptions a year ago. He also added 499 yards yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

Rising was strong yet again for Utah on Saturday. He threw for 217 yards and a touchdown while adding 90 yards on the ground on just seven carries.

But in the game’s biggest moment, the Utes’ star faltered.

Cam Rising Makes Big Mistake Late In Game Against Florida

Florida trailed Utah 26-22 with just over six minutes remaining in the contest. The Gators then marched 75 yards in 14 plays, capped by Anthony Richardson 1-yard touchdown plunge to take a 29-26 lead with just 1:25 left on the clock.

But the Utes didn’t lay down. Instead, Rising led them right down the field and quickly into the Florida red zone with 43 seconds still remaining. He then completed a pass to give the visitors first-and-goal at the Gators’ 6-yard line with 30 seconds on the clock.

After an incomplete pass on first down, disaster struck for Rising and Utah.

Rising’s pass was intercepted by Florida defensive back Devaughn Vele, sealing the win for Napier and the Gators.

College Football Fans Immediately Make The Obvious Joke

The mistake by Rising left just one joke in the minds of any and every college football fan.

And we mean everyone.

It’s an unfortunate end to an otherwise strong night for the Utes’ signal caller. But hey, it could always be worse.
