Saturday marked the biggest game of the year for the 13th-ranked University of Utah football team. Eighth-ranked Oregon rolled into the Beehive State for a battle of one-loss Pac-12 teams.

The conference championship game was on the line. As were College Football Playoff hopes.

College GameDay was in town. Pat McAfee brought his crew to campus on Friday.

The Utes even featured the Mighty Utah Student Section on its brand-new, hand-painted helmets.

All of this goes to say that the Week 9 matchup was a huge deal. There was a lot of hope for a team that had just beaten USC on the road to upset Bo Nix and the Ducks.

Everybody and their mother was in town. Salt Lake City was packed.

Unfortunately, the University of Utah social media team found itself in some hot water over a weird TikTok post that led to cries of misogyny. Misogynistic or not, the video was super cringe.

It played into a viral internet trend that compares guys to girls. However, in doing so, the Utes definitely insulted some female college football fans by mocking their lack of knowledge.

The video implied that the “girls” who go to the football game think that Pat McAfee is a quarterback and didn’t know who Utah was playing. Then it cut to the “men,” who were all jacked up on tailgating and grilling.

Again, regardless of your opinion about its messaging, the video was cringeworthy. It was posted to the university’s official TikTok account.

Comments on the post were quick to question the video:

  • “this isn’t it, yikes”
  • “this is super misogynistic… do better”
  • “have some shame”
  • “what is this lol”
  • “yikes y’all”

The video later made its way to X, formerly known as Twitter. Comments said:

  • “Who approved it? That amount of misogyny coming from a university account is unacceptable.”
  • “i miss who i was 60 seconds ago”
  • “wtf”
  • “Yikes…”
  • “………..”

All-in-all, the University of Utah’s TikTok post was not well received.
