Yesterday, the college football world was hit with a pretty shocking revelation.

A quarterback who was the starter for a Power 5 school last season and is expected to be their starter again this year, is being accused of major gambling violations.

That quarterback is Iowa State’s Hunter Dekkers.

Dekkers is currently facing accusations that he placed more than 300 wagers for a total of approximately $2799 with 26 of those wagers having been placed on Iowa State athletics.

The most notable of those wagers is one that he placed on the football team in a 2021 game against Oklahoma State while he was still the team’s backup QB.

The complaint against him also alleges that his parents were involved and that they actually tried to make it look like his mother was the one placing the bets.

Not only is Dekkers facing a criminal complaint, but if the accusations are proven to be true, then he’ll also be facing a permanent loss of eligibility from NCAA competition.

Today, a video emerged that doesn’t really seem to help his case.

The video shows an individual that appears to be Dekkers making a bet with a woman who remains off screen.

The woman says his name in the video and they agree to a $500 bet on Iowa State’s Week 2 game whatever year this occurred.

It seems unlikely that this bet would have come while Hunter Dekkers was that team’s starter, so this bet probably came in either 2020 or 2021.

In 2020, the Cyclones played TCU in Week 2, winning by 3 points. Week 2 of the 2021 season saw them lose to Iowa by 10 in a rivalry matchup.

It is also unclear if this video is even related to anything Dekkers is currently being investigated for as it’s a handshake bet in a bar rather than a bet placed with a sportsbook.

The timing of all of this couldn’t be much worse for Iowa State as they don’t have much time to figure things out at quarterback if Dekkers is punished.

It will be interesting to see how college football’s highest-profile gambling investigation plays out.
