Viral moments from Week 8 of the 2026 college football season.

Week 8 of the 2026 college football season has come and gone, and as we saw in Week 7, no one is safe. More chaos was seen at the top of the standings. Three undefeated schools fell. There are now just three remaining.

Those three unbeatens are the fewest left standing at this point in the season since the 1970s. Four of the top 11 teams in the AP Poll were beaten in Week 8. That comes after five of the top seven programs lost last weekend.

We also saw the coaching carousel officially begin. Three Power 4 head coaches are no longer employed. They will be paid handsomely to stop working.

This season has 2007 vibes. It’s been unpredictable, to say the least. With that said, let’s take a look at the most viral moments that transpired on the field over the last few days. What were fans talking about on Sunday morning?

7 viral moments from Week 8 of the college football season.

These plays and reactions were the best and most discussed from the week to pass. For this week’s list, I’ve grabbed seven moments from the FBS ranks.

I’ll start with some Thursday night action before diving into Saturday’s chaos.

Florida State’s poop curse lifted?

An infamous "Poop Curse" could pass from Florida State to James Madison.

Florida State has been living the “Poop Curse” since 2024 thanks to an unpaid debt of a brash Seminoles fan. That supporter predicted a win over Boston College two years ago. He did not uphold his end of the deal after a loss.

Since, the ‘Noles are 10-20. Mike Norvell is on the hot seat. The times, however, could be-a-changin’.

James Madison entered the weekend 7-0. One fan promised to eat poop if the Dukes lost to App State. They did, but the bet will not be honored. The account that posted the message has been deleted.

Will the curse pass from FSU to JMU? We could find out in Week 9. James Madison prays the bad juju doesn’t follow when it faces Troy on Thursday.

Cincinnati gets payback.

Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby

Brendan Sorsby left Cincinnati to play for Texas Tech after signing an NIL deal with the Bearcats. Cincy sued the Red Raiders $1 million as a result.

Cincinnati’s name was dragged through the mud after a gambling scandal erupted to effectively end Sorsby’s college career. The Bearcats did not care about the quarterback’s addiction. Texas Tech was the white knight that saved Sorsby from a bad situation. At least, that was the narrative pushed in Lubbock.

The drama cast a dark cloud over the offseason. Cincinnati had to find a replacement after losing its best player. On Saturday, that quarterback led the team to victory.

The Bearcats beat Texas Tech 37-24. JC French IV threw four touchdowns to serve the Red Raiders their first loss. Justice served.

BYU goes down.

UCF football fans storm the field after a win over BYU.

One week ago, BYU was on top of the college football world. The Cougars took down Notre Dame in dramatic fashion. They landed at No. 2 in the AP Poll following a 6-0 start.

Fast forward to Saturday, and they’ve come crashing back down to reality. UCF upset its Big 12 brethren in double overtime. Fans stormed the field after the fact.

The Cougars were one of three Top 10 teams to fall on Saturday. They are no longer atop the conference standings.

LaNorris Sellers goes beast mode.

LaNorris Sellers scores a touchdown vs. Tennessee.

If you saw only the freeze frame posted above, you’d assume LaNorris Sellers was stopped two yards short of the endzone with two Tennessee defenders draped on his back. You’d be wrong.

The South Carolina quarterback somehow fought through the contact on one leg and scored a game-tying touchdown.

It was the highlight of a game in which he threw for 210 yards and rushed for 96 more. Sellers’ heroics came inside the final two minutes of play. The Gamecocks would ensure his efforts were not made in vain by forcing a turnover on the ensuing possession to set up a walk-off field goal.

Fans rushed onto the field after the huge win. The Gamecocks will gladly pay the $500,000 fine levied by the SEC.

The Texas passer has been criticized for performance throughout his junior season. On Saturday, he briefly quieted his haters with a win over seventh-ranked Ole Miss.

Manning threw for 212 yards and rushed for the go-ahead touchdown in a 34-27 victory. He picked up his seventh win over a ranked opponent in nine tries.

Texas is now positioned to make a run to the SEC Championship Game, giving Manning the opportunity to keep those critics quiet throughout the remainder of the season.

Jason Eck goes ballistic.

Jason Eck New Mexico Football Coach Yell Scream Brett Karhu Angry Sideline

The CW Network

New Mexico football coach Jason Eck yelled at his player during a heated tirade.

New Mexico beat North Dakota State on Saturday night to improve to 6-1 on the season. Don’t tell Jason Eck.

The head coach lost his mind on the sidelines after a pick-six that put his team ahead by 11 points in the fourth quarter. One of his players got in the face of the opposing quarterback. Eck wasn’t going to let the poor sportsmanship slide.

He gave his defender a well-deserved butt-chewing, holding him accountable for actions that could’ve been viewed as taunting to potentially pull six points off the board.

No flag was called. The touchdown stood. Eck still took the opportunity to send a message to his team.

The coaching carousel is in full swing.

Maryland fired its defensive coordinator after a loss to Rutgers.

Three college football coaches did not survive the week. They were fired just two months into the season. Mike Locksley, Dave Aranda, and Dave Doeren are no longer employed.

Locksley was the first to fall with Maryland entering a bye week. He’d lost 12 straight conference games with the most recent coming vs. Rutgers. Doeren was the next domino to drop after an inexplicable loss to Stanford. That came after an inconceivable setback vs. Vanderbilt.

On Sunday, Aranda was let go after losing to Kansas. Those three coaches will be paid a combined $32 million to stop working. The search for their replacements is on, which will undoubtedly shake up the offseason ahead.
