A Fan Donated $5,000 To UVA After Saying He Would If They Managed To Pull Off An Improbable Comeback Against Louisville

With a little more than eight minutes to go in last night’s game against Louisville, the top-ranked University of Virginia was down by seven after consistently trailing over the course of the contest. Given the way the team was playing, diehard UVA fan (they exist, I promise) Michael Pittman probably figured there was no way he’d ever have to follow through on his promise to donate $5,000 to the Virginia Athletic Foundation if the Cavaliers managed to find a way to pull off the win.

The team managed to tie things up with two minutes to go, but prospects of a victory looked grim after UVA found themselves down by four with less than a second to go in the game. However, they managed to come away with a 67-66 a win on a buzzer-beating three after the basketball gods decided it was time for March Madness to officially begin— a bucket that I’m sure caused Pittman to react with mixed emotions.

While some people would delete the tweet and claim they’d been hacked, it didn’t take long for Pittman to post another message proving he had followed through on his promise accompanied by a couple of pictures documenting his donation.

Now, Pittman is following in the spirit of the number of NFL fans who donated to a variety of charitable causes this season to commemorate the performance of various players (in addition to making up for being terrible people).

I hope the UVA squash team appreciates the new coat of varnish the court will be receiving.
