The All-NBA teams were revealed yesterday and there didn’t seem to be much too egregiously wrong with the teams aside from the fact that Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid still can’t both be on the first team.

Then the actual ballots were released and it revealed one baffling selection for the All-NBA third team. For some reason, Jalen Rose voted for Kyrie Irving to make the All-NBA’s 3rd team.

Simply put, Kyrie Irving didn’t belong anywhere near an All-NBA ballot this year. He only played in 29 games this year. You can’t be one of the 6 best guards in the league playing less than 40% of the schedule in a given year.

Even if for some reason that wasn’t enough to disqualify him, you’d think that he’d have had to have been head and shoulders above his competition in the 29 games he played. However, that isn’t the case either.

Rose had Kyrie on his ballot over Trae Young. Young averaged a full point and nearly 4 more assists per game than Kyrie this season and did it across a sample with 47 more games played than him.

You could argue that former Kyrie teammate James Harden and his 22 points, 10.3 assists, and 7.7 rebounds per game were more deserving of a vote than Kyrie. Dejounte Murray averaged 21.1 points, 9.2 assists, and 8.3 rebounds per game this season and was a huge part of the Spurs even making it to the play-in round.

Kyrie Irving put up really good numbers when available, but there were players who had more of an impact that season and who were actually there to help out their teams throughout the year. Those players deserved the recognition here and Rose putting Kyrie and his 29 games on his ballot is simply ridiculous.
