The Dallas Wings selected UConn standout Azzi Fudd with the #1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft on Monday night. Despite the fact that Fudd was one of the best players in women’s college basketball last season, sports fans believe she was drafter for an ulterior reason.
Given that Azzi Fudd is widely believed to be dating Paige Bueckers, whom the Dallas Wings drafted with the #1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, many sports fans took to social media to suggest that their relationship is the reason that Fudd was drafted so high this year.
Sports fans are speculating that the Dallas Wings drafted Azzi Fudd with the #1 overall pick because of her relationship with franchise star Paige Bueckers
The Dallas wings taking azzi fudd number 1 simply off the fact that she’s dating Paige Bueckers is diabolical for the wnba . The no shows the last 2 games of the ncaa tournament were wild https://t.co/22mHNsp5gi

This speculation, however, ignores the talent of Fudd and the needs of the Wings. Fudd was always going to be drafted at either #1 or #2 overall depending on need/fit as she was widely considered to be the best big in the class. Her being selected by Dallas was a matter of whether the Wings wanted another guard to play next to Bueckers or if they wanted someone for last year’s top pick to feed down low.
During her final season with the UConn Huskies, Fudd appeared in 34 games and averaged 13.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 blocks per game.
