Tom Brady will celebrate his 42nd birthday this weekend, but despite being a Certifiably Old Dude, the quarterback continues to hold his own in the NFL and doesn’t show any real signs of slowing down at any point in the near future.

Based on the evidence at hand, it’s safe to say Brady wasn’t exactly a physical specimen when he entered the league, as he ran a dismally slow 40-yard dash (which he recently improved upon) and showed up to the combine looking like this.

Sure, he might not be the most imposing QB in the NFL as far as his physical stature is concerned but he apparently decided to do what he could to rectify that problem, as a few months ago, we learned he’d opted to devote this offseason to getting as jacked as possible.

It seemed like a bit of a pivot for Brady, who’s famed TB12 Method stresses pliability over muscle mass (although that philosophy doesn’t exactly seem to do his running game many favors).

So what caused the change of heart?

According to ESPN, Brady spoke with reporters on Wednesday and revealed the reasoning behind the new initiative, saying, “”I wanted to get a little bigger this year and put on a few more pounds and try to absorb the hits a little bit more. I worked pretty hard at that.”

While he may have indeed bulked up, Brady doesn’t look that much different than he has in past years and Julian Edelman decided to chime in and have a little bit of fun with his teammate.

Sure, he might be no Christian McCaffrey but props where props are due to Brady for doing everything he can to continue to compete despite being a senior citizen.
